This is the widest square in
Ripatransone. It bears its heroine's name "Donna Bianca de' Tharolis"
Coming from Benvignati family, maybe of Umbrian origin, she instigated
people from Ripatransone to push back the Spanish attack happened on the
eighteenth of february 1521 in Ripatransone.
She killed the enemy ensign as well and took the flag off to bring it back the village victouriously. In the past the St. Imero church set up in the square but it was pulled down in six hundred. In the middle of this square a fallen monument was erected in 1931.
The classical winged Victoria overlooks up there and a cannon, weighing 347 kilos and manufactured by a Czechoslovakian business, is settled at the foot of the monument.
The work was carried out by a roman sculptor, since his plan was chosen. His name is Ermanno Natali but we do not know much about him.
The present shape of the square typical of six hundred, is ellipsoidal. Usually the square is called "The Cannon Square" just for its characteristic cannon. Benvignati Palace is the setting of the square.
Once it was the residence of Donna Bianca de' Tharolis family. This square is crossed by the forty - third parallel.
