It stands where once were the churches of St. Gregory and St. John Decollate. It was realised by Gaspare Guerra, an architect from Modena.
The construction of the cathedral was finished in 1900. Rhe existing bell tower was raised in 1902 and the cross has been restored.
The statue of the Redeemer is 7 metres tall/22.96 feet, and the tower is 45m/147.6 feet high. The cathedral was restored in 1960 and the pictorial works were entrusted to Lorenzo Bedini from Rome. At first the cathedral was St. Benigno's church.
The crucifix in the first chapel on the right is a valuable work of art and was given to the diocese as a present by Pius V. It dates back to 1500 and is made of painted wood. Crist has a suffering expression and the fingers of his hand are broken. In the second chapel on the right there is a wriught - iron railing made by Gaetano Cellini.
The symbol of Ripatransone (a lion in five hills) is on top of it. The painting represents the glorious Madonna, St. Gregory the Great and Magdalen.
On the left wall we can find a picture portraying Jesus and Magdalene. On the right there is a painting of Holy Mary with the infant Jesus. In the fourth chapel there is a work representing St. Charles Borromeo, whose author is Alessandro Turchi. In the central dome we can find the medaillons representing the virtues and the Saint Evangelist.
St. John's Virgin is made of wood and papier-maché. St. John is the name of the Virgin's confraternity: The painting on the right was the ancient altar-piece. On the left wall there is a painting portraying the Birth of Christ. The pulpit and the chair were built by Desiderio Ronfini from Patrignone.
A picture representing the Virgin on the trone is in the second chapel on the left. It was painted by Lanfranco, who portrayed the Virgin on the throne with angels on both sides, St. John and St. Francis.
