The
Municipal Archaeological Museum is situated on the ground floor of the
town all.
Its name comes from Cesrae Cellini who founded it in 1877. He
was also the director of the museum until his death in 1903.
The museum
was extended thanks to the donations made by several local families and
to archaeological excavations. After a long study promoted by the
archaeological service of the Marches, the museum was reopened to the
public in 1985.
Its setting up was carried out following three criteria:
Chronological, Scientific, Didactic. The museum contains finds coming
from the local territory and its surroundings. 10% of these finds is
shown in the four sections of the museum: Prehistory, Protohistory, The
Picenum Civilisation; The Roman civilisation and the medieval section.
The first section contains finds made of stone, bronze and iron dating
back to the 6th century B.C.. There are various kinds of object. Along
the main corridor we can find some tomb steles and some cinerary vases.
