This historical book is an homage to Ripatransone, it is a literary travel through its artistic profile.

The most beautiful and artistic churches are:

  •  San Filippo Neri 
  • The Carmine’s Church 
  •  Santa Maria dell’ Elemosina known as the “Petrella’s Church” 
  • San Pastore.


The main artists and writers are 


  • Lucio Bonomi
  • Ascanio Condivi, the first biographer of Michelangelo Buonarroti
  • Vincenzo Pagani
  • The Poet Luigi Mercantini


In the XIV century Ripatransone gave birth to famous personages like Frà (friar) Giovanni da Ripatransone, he teached philosophy and theology at the University of Paris, obtaining the nickname of "Doctor Difficilis"

During the year 1245 was edified the Church of San Pastore with a porch designed by Lucio Bonomi an artist and architect, he is also the author of a painting dedicated to the martyr of St. Lucy the protector of all musicians.

Vincenzo Pagani (Italian Painter 1490 – 1568)

Was influenced by Carlo Crivelli and then by the Venetian Painting School.

Vincenzo was awarded by the town hall as an honorary citizen.

In the Municipal Gallery  at the Palazzo Bonomi, there is an altarpiece.

It depicts, high in the sky, there is the Virgin in glory with the child.

At the bottom of the background are depicted two town, presumably they are Ripatransone and Monterubbiano.

Another painting is The Madonna and Child Enthroned with SS. Catherine Nicholas of Tolentino, Joseph and Augustine.

In the foreground there is  statuesque figure of St. Michael, with a large feathered wings minutely described, on the right there is St. George trapped in the metal armour. On the left there is St. Martin.

Ripatransone gave birth to a famous poet: Luigi Mercantini.

The childhood  of Luigi was rich of culture and events, during his spare time he was a frequent visitor of the libraries, he studied Dante and Petrarca, Poliziano, Foscolo e Leopardi, the essence of his future poems.

For the love of a girl nemed Anna Bruni he left the clerical life.
His second love was the freedom and the unity of his loved Italia, his ideal was one nation and one language and freedom of expressions.

During the spring of the 1848 he wrote his first hymn "Patrioti, all'Alpi andiamo, patriotti andiamo al Po"  / Go Patriots to Alps, Go Patriots to Po, music byGiovanni Sante Zampettini from Senigallia.

His most famous poems were: The Gleaner Of Sapri, Hymn to Garibaldi, The Venetian Mother on the field of St. Martin, and other minor poems.

According to the literary critics of that times, he was the greatest singer of the Risorgimento.

The Gleaner of Sapri's Manuscript (Written by the poet Luigi Mercantini)

At the top floor of the museum there is the original manuscript of The Gleaner of Sapri, Written by Luigi Mercantini. "They were three hundred, they were young and strong, and they died." This  is the famous refrain of what is probably one of the most famous poems of the Risorgimento, the gleaner of Sapri, composed by Luigi Mercantini in memory of the enterprise attempted by Carlo Pisacane in 1857 to unification Italy. In these sections of the Historical Museum is dedicated to the poet Risorgimento Luigi Mercantini with an Historical Ethnographic Collection. This floor, dedicated to the Italy of nineteenth, allows visitors to immerse themselves during the time of National Unity, capturing the feelings that animated the young patriots who infuocavano the Italian Province. Madonna and Child, Saint Martin, Saint Anthony Abbot By: Vittore Crivelli

  In the middle of this triptych there is the Madonna with her child in the act of blessing. The Madonna' s face is melancholic as she senses the end of her child will meet. The child holds a goldfinch, an angel with a sword and another one with crossed hands. Behind them a cane holds a cloth with a pomegranate and an apple hanging from it. Respectively they represents the church and the original sin. On the left there is Saint Martin bishop, in one hand he holds a finely bound hardback book with a model of a village with towers and crenelled walls. On the right there is Saint Antonio Abbott bishop who holds a book and a little bell. Above this triptych there is The Piety with tree Cherubini invented on collecting the blood of Christ. On the left there is the Madonna, on the right a praying Saint. At the feet of Christ there is Mary Magdalene. In the background a landscape. .
