The tourists should know that the name of this church is "The Immaculate Conception" but it also called as St. "Philip's church"

In the past time this church was dedicated to the Immaculate Conception for the presence of a painting, painted by a student of Pietro da Cortona.

Today we call it St. Philp because inside the church there is a sanctuary with the relics of the saint.


Alessandro Fedeli

From Ripatransone was one of the best pupil of St. Philip.
He was obedient and respectful and thanks to the Saint he became a priest.
He was noticed by St. Philip for his methodology, for ten years without interruption he went to San Girolamo della Carità for confession and for his spiritual exercises.

Germanico Fedeli

Was the nephew of Father Alessandro Fedeli, at the age of sixteen years, he was accepted by the congregation called the "First July", he lived with Alessandro, for the order of Pius IV.

These personages with St. Philip were essential for the erection of Ripatransone as a bishopric.

In this essay Giorgio intorduces the figure of St. Philip as a great educator, he tells us that the saint believed, that for the formation of a better church and the future generations, the rule of a teacher must pay attention on the physical and spiritual education.

A teacher like St. Philip must be a close friend and a severe teacher, it is also analyze the spirituality of St. Philip.

Giovanni tells us the history of the St. Philip church and some interesting news like the author of the main altar and the altarpiece of the Immaculate made by a pupil of Pietro da Cortona.

A prolific painter was Ubaldo Ricci, he was the author of the altar dedicated to St. Anne, St. Gaetano from Thiene.

Today on the main altar there is sculpture of the Immaculate realized by Fedele Bianchini a student of Canova.

The architecture is late mannerist with the form of a latin cross, built on the east where the sun rises.
The sun the symbol of Jesus who illuminates every man on this world.
Designed by the architect Francesco Masari from Rome.
This church is dedicated to the Immaculate, the symbols are visible, the dove is the symbol of the Holy Spirit, The Lord's Supper, and our Lady.

Madonna and Child, Saint Martin, Saint Anthony Abbot By: Vittore Crivelli

  In the middle of this triptych there is the Madonna with her child in the act of blessing. The Madonna' s face is melancholic as she senses the end of her child will meet. The child holds a goldfinch, an angel with a sword and another one with crossed hands. Behind them a cane holds a cloth with a pomegranate and an apple hanging from it. Respectively they represents the church and the original sin. On the left there is Saint Martin bishop, in one hand he holds a finely bound hardback book with a model of a village with towers and crenelled walls. On the right there is Saint Antonio Abbott bishop who holds a book and a little bell. Above this triptych there is The Piety with tree Cherubini invented on collecting the blood of Christ. On the left there is the Madonna, on the right a praying Saint. At the feet of Christ there is Mary Magdalene. In the background a landscape. .

Pietro Alamanno (Choetbei, between 1430 and 1440 – Ascoli Piceno, 1498) was an Italian Renaissance painter and sculptor of Austrian origin. Montefortino, Fortunato Duranti Art Gallery Description At the top is the suffering Christ, partially in the tomb, with the instruments of the Passion hanging on a wooden panel against a red background to highlight it. The Madonna is seated on a throne, praying and looking at her Son, who is resting on her knees. On the left is Saint Sebastian, pierced by numerous arrows and looking at the baby Jesus. On the left there is Saint Cosima, wearing a red turban and holding a house in her hands. Saint Lucy is the only saint who looks at the observer; we see her holding a tray with her eyes and the palm of her martyrdom.
