(Photo: Italo Perazzoli)
Description:
In this fresco, the virgin Mary is shown during the breastfeeding with her son Jesus.
The iconography tells us that Jesus represents the divinity and humanity.
This is also a rare image of the Madonna, because after the Council of Trent, in the middle of the XVI Century, the image of nudity, in religious subject were discouraged.
The Madonna is looking us, because this is a typical Bizantine's icons, where the human reactions are not considered.
Thanks to Ambrogio Lorenzetti (1290 - 1348), the Nursing Madonna lost her typical frontality, and she is represented toward the infant Jesus.
This Madonna is venerated by the pregnant women, and as a dispenser of any material and spiritual necessities.
Here we see that the Madonna is seated on a marble chair looking to the faithfuls.
Her head is partially covered with a white veil, whit a brown cloack and a white, lining of ermine, symbol of purity.
Her loved son is on her knee, with and hand he holds a breast and on the other, there is a piece of bread.
