Virgin & Son With St. Anatolia, St. Anthony Abbot - Triptych - Antonio di Nicolò XV - Santa Maria Della Petrella Ripatransone
Photo: Italo Perazzoli
At the centre of this triptych, there is the Madonna and Child Blessing, St. Anthony Abbot, and on the left, there is probably St. Anatolia.
St. Anatolia is the cousin of St. Vittoria, she is invoked by believers as a healer of terminal sick people, and those possessed by demons, and lunatics.
St. Anthony Abbot is not yet the protector of the animals, he will have this status around the XVI century.
He wears a brown mantle, and holds a large bell for the collectors of tenders, and a book.
He is portraied with his typical long beard and a crown on his head.
