Santa Maria Della Pietà in Telusiano, Monte San Giusto (MC)
Description:
This Crucifixion with Pietà has been painted by Lorenzo Lotto, between the year 1529 and 1557.
On the Golgotha Mountain, we see the three crosses and a dark sky. In the middle there is the cross of Jesus Christ who died to save the humanity.
On the left and on the right, there are the two robbers.
On the first level there are the Roman's soldiers, who deliberately want to make Jesus suffer.
Let's have a look at the soldier with the white horse, who wants to tease Jesus.
Around the crosses there are disorganised rabble of soldiers, some of them on horseback, there is also a mill below the crosses and askance spears.
At the centre the male figure is Lorenzo Lotto.
In the lowest scene, of the Piety there are, the Virgin Mary with her sisters, on her fainting arms, there is Saint John. Mary Magdalene is dressed in blue.
