Lower Order

Predella
Christ among the twelve apostles

Description

The Virgin is flanked by two candlesticks.
On her knees is the blessing baby Jesus.
On Jesus' hand is an orange blossom that alludes to the redemption of men thanks to his sacrifice.
Behind the Madonna on the throne there are three symbolic elements, the pear, the apple, and the red carnation flowers.
On the far left is Saint John the Baptist, next to him is Saint Peter the Apostle with papal robes.
On the far right we see Saint Augustine with Saint Paul with the sword his instrument of martyrdom.
In the center is the tabernacle on the left is Saint Sebastian, Saint Jerome.
On the right is Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Saint Nicholas of Tolentino.
Finally there is the risen Christ with a red and white banner.
