Tempera On Wood 1869
Angelo Maccaroni
Ripatransone Pinacoteca Civica
At the centre of this painting there is a noblewoman, her name was Donna Bianca De Tharolis, she went down in history thanks to her intelligence, she immediately understood, unlike the males, that the Spanish army, after having been kindly welcomed, wanted to plunder and rape the women of Ripatransone.
To persuade the population to combat the Spaniards, she used a powerful motto, but only two women gathered around her, Angela Di Zingaro, Luchina Saccoccia.
Donna Bianca De Tharolis unsaddled the Spanish captain Garcia Mandriguez from his horse, took possession of the banner and flag and waved it throughout the city of Ripatransone, along with two doves, they defeated the Spanish soldiers on February 16, 1521.
